Mike Cashley
The 8th August 2012 has brought news of NUFC chairman Mike Ashley is interested in buying a 10% stake in Rangers Newco. (the new name for Rangers FC) While this may annoy some NUFC fans as during the summer NUFC have not been the biggest spenders in the Premiership this summer, but this deal for Rangers should really have no affect on NUFC, as Mike and Derek have already stated on numerous occasions NUFC is a club that will be run on its own accord, with money gained in profits from TV deals, sponsorship and player sales used to run the club. What this news does show is what a great business man Mike Ashley is. He is using this deal to buy a stake in one of the most famous clubs in the world, when they are at the lowest points in its history like what Ashley has done with his other businesses over many years. What Ashley will gain from the deal is exclusive rights to selling all Ranger merchandise in his Sports Direct shops for the next 10 years, and with Rangers guaranteed to be back in the Scottish Premier League within the next 5 years, down to the poor standard of football in the lower Scottish leagues and Rangers appeal to get players who would tend to drop down a league means high profits for Ashley if he decides to sell in a few years time…..and maybe he might use that money on NUFC!! Doubt it tho
